Sucrose, otherwise known as sugar, is the minuscule white crystal used in sweetening foods. Sucrose can be found in virtually every food, and chances are you have raw sugar in your kitchen for cooking or flavouring purposes. Sugar is a carbohydrate and like all carbohydrates, provides 4 calories per gram, compared to fat that has 9 calories per gram ("Did You Know" screen 1).
